Fiscal Matters
From the moment you have bought a house at Costa Blanca, the Spanish tax authorities start looking over your shoulder. Before the tranfer at the notary can take place you need to have a fiscal number, called N.I.E. This so called N.I.E. number is linked to you directly.
The N.I.E. number is necessary too, for instance buying a car in Spain or opening a Spanish bank account.
Being the owner of a house in Spain you need to make an annual tax return regarding the value of your home minus the mortgage debt. You pay tax on the difference.
